THE TEAM
In 2010 Paul Alfrey founded the Balkan Ecology Project with aims to develop and promote practices that provide nutritious affordable food while enhancing biodiversity and to provide a world class example of a regenerative landscape at their site. Paul, Sophie and their two boys Dylan and Archie moved to Bulgaria from the UK in 2005, before which Paul worked as an arborist, running a tree care business in the suburbs of South London and Sophie as a registered nurse. Inspired by the widespread practice of locally grown food and the incredible biodiversity of Bulgaria they started to develop a productive ecological garden for themselves and began to share what they were learning. Currently Paul and Dylan are working fulltime on the project.
Balkan Ecology Project activities currently include; Plant Nursery - Educational Courses - Local Land Stewardship - Polyculture Research - Market Gardening - Consultancy and Design
