Loganberry - Rubus × loganobaccus - €7 per plant 

The Loganberry has quite an interesting history in that relatively speaking, it is quite a modern variety of fruit, resulting from an accidental cross between a raspberry and a blackberry! Named after the horticulturist who first created it, James Logan, the berries of the Loganberry are delicious, especially when allowed to fully darken.  The fruit is a little more tart or sour than a raspberry, but is also very high in vitamin C.   Loganberry is more sturdy and disease and frost resistant than many other berry hybrids, and can tolerate a large range of soil types. Functions, behaviours

  • Loganberry vines can be brittle, and don’t stand up to high winds very well even with support. 
  • The canes of the loganberry tend to vine more like their blackberry ancestors so they will need a bit of support to keep them from getting out of control
  • Bare-rooted loganberries are best planted during their dormant season in November-December before the ground becomes frozen or too wet.
  • Ideally placed in the kitchen garden, against walls and fences.  Also works well as a shrub in the lower layer of the forest garden. 
  • Productive for 15 years
