White Mulberry cultivation has a long and rich history dating back thousands of years ago as a requirement for silkworm rearing. They were beloved by Persians, Romans and Greeks and moved throughout Europe along with the spread of culture from these places. A fast-growing, small to medium-sized tree growing to 10 –20 m tall, Mulberry produces delicious fruit, useful fodder for animals and wood used in craftmaking. Mulberry are also excellent plants for use in polycultures. They are tolerant of partial shade so suitable in the edges of an under storey of a larger tree and are not very nutrient demanding or competitive.
