Overview

  • Bulb growing to 1m x 1m.
  • It is in flower from June - August.  The flowers are hermaphrodite (have both male and female organs) and is not self fertile
  • Suitable for: light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils.
  • Suitable pH: acid, neutral and basic (alkaline) soils.

  • Medicinal: Main uses as a Diuretic, febrifuge, laxative

Functions, behaviours

  • It is a very ornamental plant.
  • Individual flowers are short-lived, opening in the morning and withering in the evening. To make up for this, the plant  produces a succession of flowers over a period of about 6 weeks
  • ​Grows well in heavy clay soils.
